so the original plan was to go out to Golden Ears Park for the day, but the weather doesn't look so agreeable so we're gonna congregate at eltro's house at around 1300 and stuff our faces there instead. i'm up early (1000) in anticipation of the possible drive out to Golden Ears, but now i don't wanna go back to sleep...so since i'm going to be gorging myself later after fasting for the whole week...hey why don't i do a little morning exercise?
my mom's kinda into tai chi n all that other chinese exercise stuff, so i tell her i'll go through the "18 stances" or whatchamacallit with her. well, i must have a lot of "bad air" in me, cuz i swear i was yawning through the whole routine pretty much, and not b/c i was tired or bored, but i guess if you do it right (w/ the deep breathing n everything) it actually does feel like it's something worth doing, and isn't just a way to keep old 70+ ladies active. i could feel ligaments stretching, bones crackling, heck i could even feel myself sweating a bit! and during this one move, my rotator cuff started killing and i almost wanted to stop and probably would have if i wasn't too ashamed to stop and acknowledge that these old ladies in red and yellow sweats had a better range of movement than i did, so i took a deep breath and pressed on. so today...i AM the tai chi master!
*sidenote* - i think my blog's been feelin' kinda boring lately, but not to worry. with work over and done with, something's bound to happen, and when it does, another episode will be on the way! stay tuned...

temptation - Friday, August 27 2004
today is my last day working as Internal Course Scheduler here at the BCIT Downtown Campus. i was planning on going for a filet-o-fish @ 1500 sharp, but something has gone awry. there were catering leftovers today...and i got a free monster-sized corned beef sandwich. it looks delicious...but there's no cheese. perhaps should take this as a sign that i don't need the fabulous filet of fried fish...the cheesy melted cheddar...or that tangy tar-tar sauce...but it's just not the same! =( i tell myself i need to be a MAN and "just say no!" to fatty fish...but i still struggle within. so deep is my torment that even shaney (my trainee), who sits in my office next to me at her workstation, cannot help giggling at my angst and the pitiful gaze that i must be wearing as i type this, occasionally glancing over at this lacking sandwich...but...no. No. NOOOO!!!! i will NOT succumb to your mcdevil magic! away from me with your salty sorcery! i can do this! this sandwich shall now become a symbol of strength, my help in time of need...my deliverance!!!

arggh!!! why did someone have to tell me that mcdonald's is having some special offer today where if you buy a big sandwich you get a coupon for a free one. so if i were to get a filet today...not ONLY would i only pay $1.81, i would get a coupon for a FREE one any time i want! this is like pouring salt on an open wound. man, i think i'm gonna cry...but if i do, then ppl might think i'm crying because i'm sad it's my last day at the office...but i'm not!! uy...ah i know...the only way to counter the sadness is to think happy thoughts...and the thought of never having to see/deal with the hobbit lady again is great! whoooosaah...i'm ok now.

silver lining - Tuesday, August 24 2004
vancouver's classic rainy/grey/gloomy image has been restored over the past few days...back to grey skies, cloudy mornings, a grayish tint in the air of the whole downtown core due to light rain, steam and smoke. a lot of people might find such a setting depressing, especially since we've had such beautiful sunshine for the past who knows how long (a whole month?!). but i've grown accustomed to this hazy environment, and although i wasn't totally bummed out by the weather anyway, i heard something through the walls of my office today that totally made my day:
background: the "hobbit lady" was on holiday for all of last week. today was the two-foot-terror's dreaded return. the other girl (shannon) is still helping her out in the office and the 2 are discussing the hobbit's holiday...
shannon: so how was your holiday? you said you were going on a little trip right? (emphasis by me)
hobbit: (totally overblown, voice of a hoarse horse) o yeah...we had to go to this wedding of a friend of ours. oooh my god...we had like...the craziest time...
shannon: o really? that's nice, did you have fun?
hobbit: (big, noisy snort for air) well, it started off alright but then at the reception, you know i was on the dancefloor just going at it (blaaah!! yucck!!) but then the f*%kn craziest thing happened...
"ms. baggins" then goes on and explains how some dude who was "drunk dancing" (i could hear her little feet stomping on the carpet so i knew she was reenacting it), somehow managed to elbow her in the face, and knocked out one of her front teeth! not only did he knock out her tooth and not even notice that he'd dealt her the blow, she said she kinda choked on it for a while before coughing it up. (excuse me: LOL...*gasp* hahahahahaHAHAAHAAHAhahahah!! ahem. ok, on with the story)
so yeah, i looked over at shaney (the girl i'm training to take my spot after friday) and she's heard all this as well, and while she's trying to be polite and only has a bewildered look on her face, i'm all but falling out of my chair, convulsing w/ muffled laughter. *sigh*...what a great way to start my day.
later on in the day i came across the hobbit, and i couldn't help but tell her that i'd overheard her little story, and she showed me her new tooth (i think it's made out of porcelain or something?). but yeh, it looks pretty normal, dentists are pretty hi-tech nowadays i guess, but yeh i wish someone could've gotten that on video. HHH: Happy Holidays Hobbit!
Wednesday - August 25 2004
was out for a walk during lunch today and i saw something interesting: a lady construction worker, walking her dog. the lady was wearing one of those neon orange safety vests. so was her dog. not only that, her dog was some kind of mutant; the markings/colouring of it's head & face looked like those of a dirty dalmatian, but only up until the point of the vest's neckline. the rest of it was coloured like a rotty/doberman. weird.
also bumped into sandy from Hamber. i haven't seen her in like...at least a few years but she recognized me before i recognized her. do i look that much the same? nyeh...i guess so. she's finished her degree in psych from ubc, going back for more school though, and she works @ the call centre w/ eltro. she's been working there since grade 12. craazzy...

='( i want to cry... starting sunday night, i all of a sudden decided to try and eat "healthy" for a bit. i have no clue in the world why i was struck with such insanity, but it's only been 2 days and i feel so deprived. no mcdeal's during work. no pizza after lunch. i just eat breakfast (bowl of cereal), my brown-bag lunch; sandwich (which isn't even all that healthy, i still use mayo, honey mustard n cheese), a piece of fruit and juice, and whatever mom/dad cooks for dinner (they're usu. pretty healthy w/ their meals. not "super-freak" healthy, but home-cooked healthy). so nothing too extreme i guess, the only thing i'm doing is avoiding my usual indulgence of greasey burgers every once in a while, a slice of pizza (or 2), ice cream, chips....aaahaAAAAHhhhHH!!!! X_o i think i'm getting moodswings too...i'm depressed....nooooo.... $1.81 mcChicken...how can i resist you? $1.00 (93c plus tax) pizza slices...why must you taunt me? mozza burger...with mozza, bacon, and juicy meat...arggh...gelato, chocolate, and truffle cakes so sweet...all these things i must not eat!!!

i made it- Thursday, August 26 2004
i didn't give in to mcChicken cravings yesterday. although i was tempted later that night to go to starbuck's (where i would've "conveniently" sneak into the a&w next door for a double mozza), i resisted! so what has subjecting myself to this harsh self-discipline accomplished?
MISERY to the utmost extreme...i am hard pressed right now to think of a time when my heart felt heavier (and my stomach felt any lighter), or my soul felt as empty as it does now. but i must keep my head up (lest my co-workers think i'm sleeping on the job), i will hold it up high, and i will have hope for tomorrow! for tomorrow is...filet-o-fish friday! after (nearly) a whole week (work-week) of abstaining from the grease...this is a suitable reward. i can only pray that i will make it until tomorrow. aided by the fact that thursday's mcdeal is undesirable anyway, and that mr. smelly/hairy man is working at the 93c pizza place today...i think i can stay away for another 24 hours...when my life will once again be filled with joy. i have to go to the dentist after work too.

i couldn't eat for like an HOUR after seeing the dentist...this was the worst time of day to deprive myself too, since it was after work, and i was holding back from snacking on fast food while at work...i was so sad. even in the car during the ride home from the dentist's office i think my mom could tell i was slightly irritable. just a "tad" >=[ i came home, lamenting over my deprivation...but when i headed upstairs i heard the encouraging sound of someone bustling about in the kitchen...it was dad! good 'ol pops...he had just the thing to lift my spirits up out of the gutter:

August 17, 2004 - Tuesday night
caught some olympic swimming finals action while i ate dinner tonight. in particular, the men's 4x200m freestyle. canada came 5th, but it was a trip seeing Brian Johns swim the 2nd leg, and during the poolside interview after. i still remember when i raced against this kid when he used to swim for the richmond racers. i think i beat him a couple times back in the day...i wonder if that counts for anything now? lol i could recognize his face, his features still look the same, but he's shaved his head (used to be a curly, dirty blonde kid), kinda looks like the guy from that movie Powder. what a trip! aahh...this prompts another "blast from the past":

Saturday, August 21 2003 - runaround...
morning: went to see the doc, got a referral to see the specialist dude from GF Strong, dr. travlos, just to get an update on the progress goin on up there in my noggin'.
afternoon: inspired by the olympics on tv, decided to go for a swim to get some exercise. lol, i'm no michael phelps, but i guess i can still swim like a turtle.
night: dropped by andrea's first, for the triple bday bbq (ann, jas, jacq), chilled there for a bit n sampled the various food offerings...then off to Hell's Kitchen for helene's bday dinner n a quick mini-reunion to catch up w/ some of the temp ppl. riaz, eric, phuong, venetia, ange, etc...it was cool. eric's playin' offensive tackle over in Halifax (this dude's like 6'5", 320lbs), n Lana's been cooking at Lumiere's for over a year now. impressive...that place was recently voted Restaurant of the Year in Vancouver Magazine. mmmm...another place i've definitely gotta go check out now. neway, after a few hours at the restaurant, we decided to migrate over to Crush. later on, i made my way back to the bbq (just in time to catch the last bits of dessert!), ended the night off there, after having to tell the infamous "chicken caesar salad @ #9" story about 3 friggin' times.
August 22 2004 - Sunday
- went to church in the morning, no sunday school so we went to chill @ Wendy's (mmm...new chicken strips, good)
- went to take mugshots for passport photo's today
- friggin' $85 to renew my friggin' passport, to prove i'm a friggin' Canadian?!?! that blows...
August 23 2004 - Monday
weather's gonna be dreary this week, guess that means summer's coming to an end. uy...less than 3 weeks till i must return to the 'loo. at least i get to collect a cple more pay cheques before then. my "to-do's" before i head back:
- eat gelato (thursday night?)
- eat more jap food (gotta go to hapa at least once)
- go up the grouse grind @ least once (next week?)
- more beach (weather permitting)
- trip to Fat City (Sept. 2)
- see Dr. Travlos @ G.F. Strong
..and...i think those are the major ones. nyeh...it's monday morning right now. work is slow...i'm bored outta my mind...my ass hurts from sitting. go away. i'll start picking my nose now.

summary of happenings this past weekend:
Friday (Aug. 13)
- work in the morning, headed home at 1200ish to pack
- 1700-1800ish (i think?) head for Whistler w/ Shirley & DC
- arrived around...(i can't remember) 2000ish? checked into Creekside Room 311 (others in 313)

- Cat n Joe make a mean lasagna for dinner
- etc...i crashed early, around 0030, tired from work
- 0100: jay attempts to rape me (unsuccesfully)
(whew...that was a close one)
Saturday (Aug. 14)
- woke up early, nobody else awake so i took a picture of teddy's melon:
- 0930ish: went to IGA w/ jay, picked up some meat n stuff
- back to Creekside, "breakfast" at 1300ish (eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, sausages, smokies, cereal, french toast, etc...)
- waited for eltro, eric, & jenny to get here from van, headed down to alta lake around 1500ish
- chilled at the lake till...late afternoon/evening? (swimming, tanning, canoes, kayaks, football, eric's ?japanese? chicks, eltro "macking" on chick w/ the puppy, etc...)
- back to the suite, shower, down to poolside, gettin ready for dinner bbq
- dinner bbq! lots of meat...mmmm...
- and of course; dessert! white chocolate mousse cake courtesy of tom:

- later that night: starbuck's run in the village
- walked around w/ wally, dc, jenny afterwards
- back to suite: chillin, drinking, guitaring...etc...
- 0300: crashed for the night
Sunday (Aug. 15)
- woke up at...?? breakfast again
- mulled around...finally head out (some whitewater rafting, some mountain biking, others still sleeping, others checkin' out the village)
- 1400: me, kyle, eric, n eltro go mountain biking
- 1500: after a scenic ride and a bit of downhill, stopped to chill at Rainbow park
- 1600: returned bikes, walked around village
- headed back to the suite, cooled off in the pool, dinner
- eric, eltro & jenny head back to van, along w/ esther, ann, & a few others
- night: watched olympics, chilled, more guitaring, drunken charades, laugh at teddy's broken neck, phonecall from girls in 209, wally builds his own bed, and...crashed at ???

Monday (Aug. 16)
- 1000: woke up, threw breakfast together (cut up watermelon: only fruit i had all weekend!)
- cleaned up/hid the mess

- 1230-1300ish, head home!
well, well...how's that for memory power? not too shabby...although i probably forgot a few things here n there, but i think i got most of it. a wicked weekend, haven't taken a trip all summer, i needed this. got to do a decent amount of stuff too (swimming, biking, exploring), and got a decent amount of relaxation in too. a much needed "pre-back-to-school trip". uggh...did i just type that?!? "school"?!? uy...

*in other news*: i found underwear for "only" $8.99 today! ok, that's still not that cheap i guess, not even close to the bargain my mom got me which was $5.99 for TWO pairs, but this was from Winner's and the MSRP was $20, so $8.99 seems like a pretty damn good deal to me. besides, i needed to stock up before heading back to school anyway. (i hate doing laundry, so i keep enough underwear around so that i can last like 3 weeks before doing it!)
summary of happenings this past weekend:
Friday (Aug. 13)
- work in the morning, headed home at 1200ish to pack
- 1700-1800ish (i think?) head for Whistler w/ Shirley & DC
- arrived around...(i can't remember) 2000ish? checked into Creekside Room 311 (others in 313)

- Cat n Joe make a mean lasagna for dinner

- etc...i crashed early, around 0030, tired from work
- 0100: jay attempts to rape me (unsuccesfully)

(whew...that was a close one)
Saturday (Aug. 14)
- woke up early, nobody else awake so i took a picture of teddy's melon:

- 0930ish: went to IGA w/ jay, picked up some meat n stuff
- back to Creekside, "breakfast" at 1300ish (eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, sausages, smokies, cereal, french toast, etc...)
- waited for eltro, eric, & jenny to get here from van, headed down to alta lake around 1500ish
- chilled at the lake till...late afternoon/evening? (swimming, tanning, canoes, kayaks, football, eric's ?japanese? chicks, eltro "macking" on chick w/ the puppy, etc...)

- back to the suite, shower, down to poolside, gettin ready for dinner bbq
- dinner bbq! lots of meat...mmmm...

- and of course; dessert! white chocolate mousse cake courtesy of tom:

(other cakes in attendance: tira misu, cheesecake)
- later that night: starbuck's run in the village
- walked around w/ wally, dc, jenny afterwards
- back to suite: chillin, drinking, guitaring...etc...

- 0300: crashed for the night
Sunday (Aug. 15)
- woke up at...?? breakfast again
- mulled around...finally head out (some whitewater rafting, some mountain biking, others still sleeping, others checkin' out the village)
- 1400: me, kyle, eric, n eltro go mountain biking


- 1500: after a scenic ride and a bit of downhill, stopped to chill at Rainbow park

- 1600: returned bikes, walked around village
- headed back to the suite, cooled off in the pool, dinner
- eric, eltro & jenny head back to van, along w/ esther, ann, & a few others
- night: watched olympics, chilled, more guitaring, drunken charades, laugh at teddy's broken neck, phonecall from girls in 209, wally builds his own bed, and...crashed at ???

Monday (Aug. 16)
- 1000: woke up, threw breakfast together (cut up watermelon: only fruit i had all weekend!)
- cleaned up/hid the mess
- 1130ish: checkout, pit-stop @ buck's before heading back to van
- 1230-1300ish, head home!
well, well...how's that for memory power? not too shabby...although i probably forgot a few things here n there, but i think i got most of it. a wicked weekend, haven't taken a trip all summer, i needed this. got to do a decent amount of stuff too (swimming, biking, exploring), and got a decent amount of relaxation in too. a much needed "pre-back-to-school trip". uggh...did i just type that?!? "school"?!? uy...

Wednesday (after work) - August 11 2004
just got stung by a bee! dammit...i didn't even DO anything to aggravate the lil bugger, just stung me for no reason. i was gettin into the car, then as i lean back i feel bit of pain on the right side of my back near my shoulder-blade...then BAM!

at first i thought i'd touched the metal part of the seatbelt buckle, that it was hot because of the sun, but then i turn around n i see this lil bugger buzzing around! i shooed it out the window...stupid insects. hope it doesn't swell up or anything, or that it's not one of those "killer bees". ah well, pain does a body good. kinda funny that it stung me in that spot too actually...perhaps a taste of things to come?
"Konnichiwa Raphael!" Thursday - August 12 2004
got a lil caught off guard just now. a lady from the front desk ran back to my office and said if i could show the building to these two people from SFU. she just said that they wanted to see some classrooms, maybe some labs, etc...just a basic building tour i guess. i've already done this a few times for film & production companies, so i figured ok sure why not (plus she seemed to be a bit flustered so i figured it was pretty busy up front so i'd help her out). i call for a security guard to help me escort them since he's got all the keys for entry anyway, and i walk out of the office and over to the gallery area where she says the sfu people are waiting. sure enough, there they were; 2 esl instructors from SFU waiting to meet me. what she FORGOT to mention was the 25 super-hyper, photo-snapping, touristy japanese students that were with them!
so it turned out that these 2 wanted to show this group of SFU exchange students from japan some different educational campuses here in Canada. so alright, i know what tourists like, so i take 'em up to the top floor, the classroom w/ the killer view. we flood into 2 elevators n rocket up to the 8th. rob (security guy) opens up the classroom door, and i decide to open up the blinds (it's a corner classroom so it's got a pretty good panoramic view of downtown vancouver). BAM! out come the digicams and camera phones! man these kids were crazy. from there behaviour, i thought maybe they actually were "kids" so i double checked with the instructor, but no, they were university students; from economics, psychology, even a few law students?! i was originally gonna say something to introduce the building/campus to them, but i was too busy fighting to hold back the laughter! the only thing missing was a sanrio character or something n it could've been like japanese sesame street or something. i swear, one of the rare moments where i wanted to stop laughing but i couldn't. it was the classic japanese tourist stereotype come to life: cameras flashing, "V" sign poses everywhere! i think that made my day. too bad i didn't bring my camera too though hahaha, that could've been cool.

well...back in the office unexpectedly this morning. gonna be heading up to whistler in a few hours, won't be back till monday. this looks like it'll be my only "holiday" this holiday, so let's hope it's fun and relaxing. oh yeah, n i hope i don't get bitten by any more insects either!

hobbit woman is going on holiday next week ^o^ (*big sigh of emotional relief*), AND they got a replacement to back-fill for her while she's gone. psssh...like she has anything to do anyway! (other than hork and laugh over the phone, bleghh...*shudder*) so i'll be free from the 3-foot-terror for a week. that should be reason enough to celebrate shouldn't it? yes, but the deal just got a lil sweeter...her replacement just came in today; shannon ford. hmm...i had a g/f of the same name before. she seems nice, i can hear the hobbit's overbearing vocals through the wall as she tries to explain her "extremely busy job" to the new recruit. poor girl. hobbit hasn't taken the time to introduce her to everyone else in the office yet, but we exchanged polite glances through my window as i saw them walking past my office before going into the "hobbit's lair". i can hear hobbit now (man is she loud!)...they're quickly going over "procedures", then she'll give shannon an office tour and do the intros. it's 1430.
uh oh.

do i stick around and wait to be introduced to my new neighbour? or do i take my traditional wedneseday break?

that's Raphael in Hebrew (I think...). bp told me about some site that she saw the other day: www.raphael.bc.ca! i couldn't believe it, it was some honger dude too lol; Raphael Chung. i thought that was pretty funny, but then one night when i was eating dinner at home we saw this story on the news about a local kid who won the Canadian Juniors golf tournament, and his name is Rafael Lee? he's from burnaby too, craazy...but the media's retarded; the website spells his name Raphael, but the scorecard and the news i saw on tv said it was Rafael? yeesh...get your act together people. oh well, at least it wasn't ralph...

the mpio mp3 player is made in china. just swapped my samsung YP-30SH for the 128MB mpio at future shop, thought i'd abuse my product service plan to the max (this is the 3rd new mp3 player i've gotten as a result of the "exchange warranty" i originally bought with the Nike PSA Play 60 which was purchased while i was still a future shop employee) - but i want my yepp back. i dunno, maybe i'm just not used to the mpio after having used the yepp for over a year, but the navigation/user-interface (both for the device and the software) bugs me. plus the manual is just friggin shameful! check it out:
